A brand new season of Shop the Show at AmericasMart is just a few short weeks away, and we can’t wait to reveal all the details! As a sneak preview, we’re checking in with each of our inspiring shoppers, including lifestyle influencer Mandy Kellogg Rye. Mandy is the founder of the popular blog Waiting on Martha, a brand which now also encompasses an e-commerce channel and a 2,500 square foot home and gift shop in Atlanta, Georgia.
Waiting On Martha - -a name originally penned as an homage to Mandy’s favorite personality, Martha Stewart -- was born under the premise of inspiring beautiful everyday living, and includes everything from recipes and entertaining to home decor, personal style and travel. Mandy’s style resonates deeply with her readers and customers alike, and has attracted brand partnerships with Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Frontgate, American Express, and Whole Foods, as well as features in House Beautiful, Harper’s Bazaar, Lonny, Lucky and many other top publications. When Mandy isn’t “Martha,” you can likely find her at home with her husband Anthony and Addison, her King Charles Cavalier spaniel.
We checked in with this creative powerhouse to find out some fun facts, see what’s inspiring her and get the goods on what she’s looking forward to in 2019. Read on for more from Mandy!
I’m extremely claustrophobic and have a fear of flying, even though I fly all the time.
I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan and watch the movies in chronological order usually once a week. They’re my “white noise” when I work.
I don’t use social media personally. Social media has been one of the greatest assets for my career, but I really try to stay offline and in the moment as possible when it comes to my life.
Nancy Meyers. I’ll take any home in any movie Nancy Meyers movie.
Biggest surprise in entering the world of retail:
I wouldn’t say I’ve been surprised by too much in the retail world because I had 4 pop-up shops before committing to a full time brick & mortar. But I will say I’m still constantly surprised by the amount of new customers that discover the shop every day, which makes me very hopeful for the future of small business retail.
3 Must-Haves for next season & beyond:
3 Go-To Colors for next season & beyond:
Celery & sage greens
Ivory (rather than white)
Offline is the new luxury.
Upcoming trends she’s scouting at market:
To be honest, I don’t follow trends too closely. I really let market speak to me rather than going in with a set plan. This will be my 13th market buying for my shop, and every time a few themes or trends always emerge that are reflected in the shop that coming season. So excited to see what those themes will be this year!
