Just like the world of fashion, home decor has trends that seem to take center stage each year. And, both the home decor and fashion worlds seem to be having a love affair with painterly fabrics, bold prints and graphic, gritty designs. Incorporating one of these trends into your home may be just what it needs to feel fresh and modern. And, if that is just too bold, perhaps adding a piece of furniture with a leg in the shape of an animal will add just the perfect amount of whimsy you need!
New hobnail – Hobnail is a traditional texture for glassware and pitches, especially on milk glass pieces, but I found the raised bumps on dinnerware and décor at Lunares with a more global perspective, on sculptural grey lamp bases at CFC Furniture, and in a more typical setting on pale green glassware at Canvas Home. The texture lends itself well to modern applications, and brings a 3D aspect to both simple or ornate designs.
It was such a pleasure to collaborate and be part of the "AmericasMart Style Your Season" team. I was incredibly thrilled to tour the AmericasMart Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market and scout for the latest and greatest trends in home furnishings and decorative accessories from around the world. It was no easy task scouting through beautiful showrooms, talking and learning about what inspired the designers to create such beautiful textiles and home decor. It was truly exciting to tour through inspiring interiors, browse colorful home decor, and stay up to date on the latest trends in interior decorating.
I was so excited to be a part of such a wonderful collaboration with AmericasMart Atlanta. When I first walked into the AmericasMart, I have to say I was a bit inspired and overwhelmed by the vast space. So many floors of gorgeous interiors that showcased items from accessories to furniture to rugs. It was definitely a site to see, and a dream, being that I'm an interior designer and feeling like a kid in a candy store, excited to see what the 2017 trends would be. My friend and I, Norma at Paint Me Pink Shop, decided to start with one floor and work our way up!
It was my pleasure to attend the July Market. I love going to the Mart because it always provides so much inspiration. This visit Mart surpassed even my high expectations. Envision eye candy for days from incredible designers and companies and you still will fall short of what you actually experience while roaming the halls and buildings. It was shot in the arm of pure inspiration. In fact, I may have overdosed.
I have visited the Mart many times over many years but this trip was different. I was attending so that I could look for, and share with you, new trends I see heading our way in the coming months and into next year. I will admit I found myself a bit overwhelmed trying to take in all of the incredible presentations on just the first two floors. It was booth after booth of amazing art, fabrics and furniture. Add to that the new 8th floor and the brand new curated Antiques section and there simply was no end to the stunning sights and vendors to behold.
After a few strolls I was able to take notice of some new trends coming our way along with some styles that are still going strong. Where are we headed? I am happy to share with you my point of view ...
