ATLANTA, May 2007—The Atlanta Women’s Apparel/Accessories MarketSM featuring Prom, Bridal & Special Occasion inaugurates its new Saturday—Tuesday Market dates to serve the evolving needs of its retailer and exhibitor customers, according to Jeffrey L. Portman, president and chief operating officer, AmericasMart Atlanta.

“We’re not going to sacrifice our August Market by adopting dates that are incompatible with the changing requirements of our exhibitor and buyer customers,” continues Portman.

The August 18-21 apparel Market—the largest on the East Coast—with 2.1 million square feet and 13 floors of product, 1,000 temporary booths, almost 600 permanent showrooms, and 8,000 apparel and accessories lines—continues to expand as a national destination. A majority of customers acknowledged that the previous August dates were too early for their lines, and they needed at least 10 more days to be ready for Market, Portman says.

“While any change can create a level of inconvenience, we ultimately have to do what is right for the vast majority of our customers—and most of our customers are well served by our decision to hold the Market August 18—21,” Portman notes.
